The Menopausal Meet-Up: A Tale of Friendship and Forgetfulness

Yesterday a dear friend came to visit. Both of us are navigating the choppy waters of menopause—me, quite newly so due to Hysterectomy, and my friend, a seasoned veteran with a few years under her belt. Both our journeys began with induced menopause, which made for quite the dramatic entrance into this phase of life. Despite the rush of hormones and the whirlwind of symptoms, our time together was nothing short of hilarious and heartwarming.

As we settled into our sun-soaked afternoon, we embarked on what we thought would be a quick catch-up. Little did we know, our conversation would be peppered with constant interruptions of "Wait, what was I saying?" and "Oh, I forgot already!" It was like a comedy sketch come to life, with both of us playing the forgetful characters to perfection.

A Comedy of Errors

We began by trying to remember where we left off last time. After a few false starts and some head-scratching, we finally managed to piece together bits and pieces of our previous conversations. My Friend would start a story about her latest adventures, only to pause midway, look at me with wide eyes, and say, "Hang on, where was I going with this?" I'd respond with a knowing laugh, "No idea, but I'm sure it was good!"

Despite the hilarity of our conversation, or perhaps because of it, our time together was absolutely lovely. We basked in the sun, compared our menopause journeys, and caught up on life in general. There was a comforting sense of solidarity in sharing our experiences and realising we weren't alone in this often confusing phase of life.

The Importance of Social Connection

If there's one thing this visit highlighted, it's the importance of social connection. Sharing our misadventures with someone who truly understands made the whole experience less daunting and far more amusing.

We may have struggled to remember our own stories, but the laughter and camaraderie we shared were unforgettable.

So, to all the wonderful women out there navigating menopause—whether you're just starting out or are a seasoned pro —remember to cherish those moments of connection with friends. They may forget the details, but the joy and support they bring are truly invaluable.

Until next time, may your menopausal meet-ups be as memorable (or forgetful) and delightful as ours!

What's your funniest menopause memory or moment of forgetfulness?

Warm regards,

@Meno-Mirth Michaela 👋
